Could it be that I
the purity in the sky
should cast a discerning eye
over my breeding stock of
human worth
my goods and chattels
harvest of the earth?
Could it be that they
have gone irrevocably astray
despite my clear direction
to follow my instruction
my example
to embrace peace and love
as do I in heaven above?
Could it be that I
master of earth and sky
should punish
the fear and loathing
the hatred and the gloating
in the name of God above
despite my principle of love?
Sean, I hear what you are saying. At the same time God hasn’t set a very good example for us. For example, what God would allow the best-hearted among humans to be taken from us, yet leave the most vile to continue their evil deeds?

Li, yours must be a core question when considering religion / god. None that I know of is my answer.

Fair enough.

I think we inflict punishment on ourselves with our own behaviour, Sean. No additional intervention is required. It’s rather sad.

Robbie, I think you have the truth of it.

Self inflicted and irrevocable. To blame a God is a pitiful get out clause.
We are masters of our own fate. Intervention and course corrections are left to us.

As an atheist I can only agree. However, occasionally I do reflect on how convenient a benevolent, interventionist god might be.

Of course. Like a spellchecker, it takes the onus from us to live responsibly. 😊
