I missed the last train but in the moment I saw it as an opportunity to walk the midnight kilometres home
I bravely left the yellow lit platform lonely island full of light and its twin ribbons of steel fading into the night
i crossed the darkened city instead stepping from one street lit pool to another where roads were stark the highways bare for all my looking there was nobody there
I found my way footsore and weary across a city where there was not a soul who cared but I was glad I had dared
The opportunities we often miss because of routine. The opportunities to learn something about ourselves, by having to alter our best laid plans.
I remember walking for many miles on a trip to Tobago as a child.
Our car had broken down, and we walked an entire evening to get to where we were going.
But our guide, new of every adventure that would keep us kids entertained.
I bet that woke you up in more than one way.

I think most of us understand that travel by foot is the most intimate of environmental encounters.
