Landscapes

Alpine meadow Mt Buffalo, Victoria.
It is the rugged mountain landscape that reflects my heart
from great heights I watch over every part
the pinnacles are the summit of my aspiration
valleys are where I pause for consideration and revelation
water scoured gullies have carved their scars onto my soul
but the long deep range sustains and heals my whole

open rolling plains broad flat and wide
are where the scope of my vision emerges from inside
where I can see from horizon to horizon
nothing impedes my hopes here my future can be spun
from each creature or blade each single tree or forest
I absorb the beauty of each day each morning and evening sun
watching and observing for new opportunities to enlist

along waterways I explore the wilder places I adore
where raging tempest or placid calm invoke irrepressible desires for more
like the fluid medium within me water of my life
clean water fills all empty spaces with relief
and ocean depths teem with the origins of my genes
where all futures were created as a multiverse of dreams

This week the dVerse poetics prompt from Dora was to incorporate a landscape or cityscape into your poetry that either mirrors or amplifies your interior landscape (or lack thereof).

Snowline

Above the snowlike looking toward the Paps, Timbertop, Victoria.
for the clearest view
here's what to do
climb the highest mountain
to just above the snowline
where the trees fade away
on a clear blue day

Photography days #10.

Mountain man

Cathedral Range, Victoria
Of the mountains
of the peaks
of the hills and valleys steep

I the mountain
man of woodland
keep my forest keep

in the rivers
in the lakes
in the waters deep

I bathe and water
fish for supper
pull my oars asweep

i am a hunter
and life preserver
at loss in grief I weep

at end of day
abed I lay
to drop to restful sleep

Poetry days #07.

Timbertop Saddle – Mt Timbertop summit walk (return)

This is a fantastic day walk in the Victoria High County near Mansfield. Autumn laid on a delightful smorgasbord of wildflowers and clear skies. For the full map, photos and description see my online publication here: https://walkingmaps.com.au/walk/5822

Mountains

Looking to the Australian Alps
Mountains stand above valley and plain
ranging over extensive stage
mountains never look the same
mountains turn many a page
cloaked white in winter's fog and snow
clad in the green shades of spring
baked by summer’s hot yellow sun
in autumn’s many colours seen
softened by forest leaf en masse
capped with crags of hardened stone
eternally surveying woodland and grass
water and desert from lofty throne

Mountains old

Strathbogie Ranges

 Mountains old
 worn down
 by time and weather
 Peaks
 smoothed
 Summits
 rounded
 Rocks
 broken to
 new
 beginnings

 Stones to gravel
 sand to granules
 dust to mud
 growth to decay
 decay to soil

 Inclined to
 slippage
 Declined to
 fertility

 Treacherous
 nurturing
 home of the
 tenacious

 Boon to the
 potency
 of flood plains

 Mountains old
 are so much more alive
 than the hard
 sharp ridges
 and strewn
 craggy defiles
 of the young
