Gaia is wounded, Mars beckons
blue is blue, red still angry
Gaia stains carbon black
Mars stained bloody red long ago
Gaia weeps for her children
potent lively lush and green
Mars impotent red rocks and dust
longs for his own offspring
Mars pleads save them Gaia
build great machines
oxygenate the red planet
with a new rusty sheen
Mars pleads save me Gaia
red oxygen
in your time of failing
save me from oblivion
Gaia harnesses depleted resources
Gaia cuts herself and tears
mother sacrifices for her children
Gaia strips herself bare
Her children develop red oxygen
designers discover scale
miners plunder her depths
engineers build to sail
Todays dVerse prompt from Sanna suggested sci fi poetry. I didn’t know it was a thing and now I am pleased to know it is a thing.
I’m so pleased you discovered sci-fi poetry at the dVerse Poets Pub, Sean, and enjoyed the gods and all the colours in your red oxygen poem. Given half the chance, those in charge would plunder Mars in the same way they’ve plundered Mother Earth.

I have no doubt that is true. I wonder what will be left of earth and the human race by the time we have finished our plundering?

I can’t even think about it.

We have met the future and it is us or bust. More and more I am anticipating the latter.

Mars should be happy not yet to be ravaged by humans I think.

I am inclined to agree. However, if Mars is an entirely dead planet maybe there is nothing wrong with exploiting it. Trouble is we will probably have well and truly exploited Earth to an empty desolate shell before we get to go anywhere.

Sean, you have a knack for sci-fi writing. A collaboration between Earth and Mars is intriguing to me.

I like the idea too, but think we might exhaust our planet and ourselves well before we get to move on and do the same damage elsewhere though.

I hate to give up on my species, but that might be a blessing.

And I am pleased too that SciFiPoetry is a thing and that you know it and write it so well!

Me too and thank you.

Nothing like dissecting Mother to hope for a petri dish of life on Mars.

Rather than save our planet we seem determined to hollow it out then move on to do the same elsewhere. Stupid thing is I am pretty confident this is a hollow hope.

This is so poignant! I am especially moved by this part; “Gaia weeps for her children/potent lively lush and green/Mars impotent red rocks and dust/longs for his own offspring.” Thank you so much for adding your voice to the prompt 💙💙

It was an excellent prompt. Just what are we going to do when we have squeezed every last resource out of our planet?
